4: Follow Your Happy

Aloha, dreamers! 


We are still on quarantine here in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and as we go through these trying times, I’m seeing different perspectives that people have about this situation that we’re in. Some are excited about all the opportunities that have been brought about by this pandemic, and then on the other end of the spectrum, you see people who are a little bit down, anxious and feeling stuck!


If you’ve been feeling stuck, or a little off-balanced because of the pandemic, then I encourage you to tune in to this episode.


So, in this episode, I talk to you about my coping strategy for when I’m feeling stuck or a little off-track. I share with you my “bounce-back ability” and the things I do in order to find my way back to happy. 


My hope is that, after you listen to this episode and learn about my coping tools, you’ll be able to come up with your own coping strategy to be able to bounce back in life and in business.

Aloha and welcome to the Dream Into it Podcast. I'm Roxelle Cho coming to you from my hometown, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. After building a multiple seven figure swimwear  brand from a dream starting in my garage, I became curious into learning how my thoughts created the reality around me.

Aloha dreamers. Welcome to episode number four of The Dream Into it Podcast.

I am here today, again. We're in quarantine here in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, and just coming through with what I'm noticing here as an entrepreneur, as a mom, as a business owner, as a leader in my company, and what comes up a lot is...as we go through these hard times, there's a lot of different perspectives  on how to look at the times we're in. 

You come across people who are super excited about life, in this place that we're in now, there are only opportunities and great things that are happening.

There's this cleansing and there are overwhelming amounts of excitement and creativity. And then on the other end of the spectrum, you see people who are a little bit down, who feel a little bit overcome with anxiety, struggle, stuckness (if that's even a word. I don't even know but you know what I mean).

That place where they don't know what to do next. A little bit overwhelmed and I can see personally that I've been to both parts of that spectrum. So all parts of that are part of who we are as humans, as perfectly imperfect humans. And being able to access all of those emotions and feelings throughout our lives is okay and it's part of the process. 

To know that when we come here and when we meet in this place (this podcast), I want all of you to know that I am inviting you in at any part of that spectrum that you're at. All of it is okay and at the end of the day, how do we get  back to that really great feeling place?

How do we get back to that inspired, motivated, creative selves that we love to be at every moment in time? And that's what this episode is going to cover.

I've noticed a lot of the words I've been using have been, “I’m following my inspiration, I'm following my inspiration.”

That's just been the same. That's been coming out of my mouth like I don't know what to do next. I've never known what to do next, but I know that every time that I was 100% clear, successful in any pursuit, were times that I was following my inspiration. I was moving by this gut instinct feeling. This high energy excited part of me that I just love.

I have this pillow in my living room. It says, “You are my Happy.” And I just love that pillow. It makes me happy. So when I bought it, I was like, "Oh!  I just love it." Because I love things that make me feel happy. I love people that make me feel happy. I love doing things in my business that make me feel happy.

And that's why I'm here with you on this podcast. Because talking to you and relaying and conveying messages with my audience is one of the very main things that’s made me happy. And I've just started to realize that throughout this process. So thank you all for being a part of this journey with me. Thank you for being a part of my happy every single day.

So on with the program. At times you're going to see that I get really happy, really excited, and I might kind of go off track a little, but here we are, following my inspiration. 

I get asked that a lot. “How do you continue operating in business as a mom of four?  How do I do all these things? How do I stay excited?” It’s not to say that I never get depressed or anxious or all those things.

No, I do. I very much have been through the dark sides of depression. I've been through anxiety. I still go through those times, but I am here to tell you that having been there and back, I found out ways to cope a lot easier when I get there.

My cousin and I talked about this as well. We call it our “bounce-back ability.” When we go to those lows of lows, sometimes it feels like our bounce-back ability has gotten better through these instances, and it's being there enough times to know, "Hey, this is the way home. This is the way back to happy. Remember when we were here last? I'm starting to memorize this road home."

And that's what I'm here to share with all of you as I've been depressed. I've been to those low points in time. The message that I want to share is the way home. The way back to happy.

And so one thing that helps me as I'm learning is grounding. And you hear that a lot. If you follow me at all on my Facebook, my Instagram, you're always going to see me grounding whether it be at the beach, in the grass, in the dirt, in the sunlight, something super simple. And I'm such an advocate of using the resources that we have.

You know, at times we might not have resources to spend on fancy healing modalities or whatever it may be. But I know that we all can find a plant, some sunlight, dirt, grass and some wide spaces to be in of some sort of nature to surround ourselves in, to bring us back to the place that we need to be.

And there's something about the energy that surrounds nature that brings us back to creation and makes us one with that energy source. And that's one very big thing in my life - grounding. 

Whenever I'm feeling off-balanced even though I have a headache or a backache, or I'm just feeling frustrated at times, those are the very times where I don't want to get out of the house.

I don't want to go to the beach. I don't want to go outside in the sun. I don't want to go for a walk. And the times where I feel like I can't and I don't want to, are very much the times that I needed the most. 

And so if that is one thing that you can take away from this, I would encourage everyone as much as possible to get grounded and back to nature. Get back to where we’re supposed to be. 

A lot of times we're surrounded by so much technology and electronics and all these things that keep us very untouched with ourselves and distanced from other people and connected with the life around us. I would encourage all of us to breathe some fresh air, get some sunlight, move your body, get back to nature and to ourselves.

And so grounding would be my number one takeaway of how I find my happy, how I follow my inspiration. 

Other ways that I find successful is meditation. At first when I started meditation practice, I thought it was like, well, "I have to sit like this and I have to breathe like this and I have to say this and hold this and do this.”

And honestly, I don't think that's true. Like there are people who are really great at meditation and it is such a good practice to get better at. But I found for me, well, I have four kids. I run a business. I have school schedules. My husband and I have schedules to work within.

And a lot of times fitting a one hour meditation in my day is difficult. So on the days that are impossible, which are most days, I find, "Where can I fit five minutes in? Where can I sit for 10 minutes and just breathe and listen to my breath?" 

Honestly, I don't feel like I can tell you there are proper ways to meditate because I don't know the proper ways to meditate.

But what I do know is that when I started with a one-minute session, downloading an app. It's guiding me and how to listen to my breath. It sounds so elementary, like listening to your breath - breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out. But that's how I started. Just sitting there for 30 seconds for a minute.

Just listening to my breath, and as I got better at it, I found myself doing it for five minutes, then 10 then 20 then 30 and then craving time to where I could just sit in this quietness, in the stillness and listen to my breath. And in those times I was able to observe my thoughts. 

I noticed that that practice and action, that became a habit to me to where now it’s in my normal everyday environment. And at times when I'm going through overwhelming situations, well, I know how to listen to my breath and analyze my thoughts a bit quicker. And so when I have to make a decision or when I'm feeling overwhelmed or when I feel like I'm getting my temper flaring up all these times, well now I have this coping tool. 

I learned through these meditation times - like how to breathe, how to analyze my thoughts, how to make clearer decisions. Because I can get my brain back into focus and I can get my mind to slow down. 

So if you're like me, you have ADD and your mind just resets a lot of times in these anxious moments, well, these are very much things that you can use in your toolbox. And I'm trying to create this toolbox so that I too can relay them to my children who are very much just like their mother. At times they are mirrors of me. I see their tempers flaring. I see their anxiety. I see their fears.

How great it is now that I am starting to get this toolbox to where I'm like, "Hey girls, look what I got. Look  what I can teach you now so that you can have this in your toolbox as well when you become my age". I'm learning this all in my thirties and it makes me so excited to know that perhaps in their teenage years they're going to be more equipped than I was. And I feel excited about that and I'm hoping to empower them as well with those tools in their toolbox. 

Other things that helped me through these times where right now is a really good time to assess this as well. Following my inspiration, following my joy, well, it very much comes from giving.

What I mean is now is such a perfect time to really reflect on how much we're giving. Because as I notice the times where I'm feeling the most lack, whether it be lack of time, money, resources, love - all of those times, I notice if I turn that perspective around, turn that way of thinking around to what I'm lacking the most, it's a game changer.

It's very interesting to me that when we feel like we're lacking, whether it be time or money, we almost defend what we have and hold onto tighter. And it reminds me of the song, Mary had a Little Lamb. If you love it, let it go. And it always comes back around. It always comes back to you.

And I know that's a hard concept to grasp because in our logical minds, it makes no sense at all. But if you were to ask me how do I follow my inspiration and how do I get that road back to happy, well, it's giving things away. When you're in a state of lack, boy! How does that open your eyes?

How does that open your eyes to how much abundance is around us? Because at all times when you are giving, it's a law of reciprocity and it comes right back to you. It's the Aloha spirit here in Hawaii. Giving without any expectation of anything in return. And we do that because we know things come back around naturally and it's such a beautiful process.

And I want to live in a world where people are like that. In order for me to live in a world where people are like that, I have to be that person.

Another thing that we learn in this process, that I've learned in this process, and it’s as big as giving, it's receiving. So when those things come back around, receiving is a very difficult thing at times too because we have our pride or ego and we’re like, "No, we don't need that".

We don't need other people to help and support us. But at the end of the day, that's what makes this beautiful ecosystem of love is giving and receiving.  Receiving from others is giving to them. And so if we can remember that our road to happy will be much smoother, following our inspiration will be much easier.

And on a side note too, I think that what helps me a ton as a mom and entrepreneur is continuing to do what fills you up. Continuing to do what makes you happy. At times, that's the last thing on our list. Especially as mothers, as women, we put everyone else first and then here we are at the bottom of the list.

And if we have the five minutes at the end of the day for self-care or to do what makes us happy, then we can fit it there. But by that time we're tired and that never happens. And so I encourage you, put yourself at the top of the list. In a way that knowing that when you are happy, everything after that will come from this really happy place.

This heart, love, this gift and the energy that you are giving out, and this love that others are receiving now from you is so wholehearted that it just inspires others to do the same. 

And when we continue on from that heart-centered self and we continue serving others because that's what's the most important thing, and when we continue giving to others, even when we think that we're lacking, our road to happy, it'll be a magical road back home. And every time you're able to travel down that road again, oh boy! Inspiration's always riding copilot in the passenger seat.

Your thoughts begin to flow. Your creative energy is there, and that's where magic happens. That's where beauty is. And I encourage you all to come down that road. Come with me on this journey, that road home, that road to your happy place. I want to let you all know, again, remind you of what my pillow tells me every day. That quote on my pillow, it says, "You are my Happy"
