“Traveling allows one to expand the boundaries of your mind. To take things that you thought were only done a certain way, to take that concept and flip it over on its head and have it make sense in a whole new light.”

It is my seventh visit to the beautiful island of Bali. Out of all the countries, my husband and I have traveled to in the past twelve years; we seem to find ourselves returning back to Indonesia the most. There’s something about its simple nature that soothes my soul with each visit. Every visit a reminder that life is only as complicated as you make it. Stuff is just stuff in the end. The few things you need consist of everything you already possess. I’ve learned to ditch the excess luggage. The quicker you can get to know who you are and what you need to feel fulfilled, Life seems to move forward a lot smoother.

My last visit here was two years ago. I was 28 at the time, and boy was that a year of rumbling for me. It was as if the stories of who I was in my past and the person I was working on becoming decided to come together and clash heads that year in a quarrel to see which version of myself would rise to the top. I honestly had no idea what was happening. I felt all the emotions but had no idea how to cipher through them to acknowledge what was taking place. It’s as if everything had to crash down into a million pieces first before I could put the pieces back together into a stronger, more resilient version of myself. Life has a funny way of turning what seemed at the time to be a difficult situation to one of the most eye-opening lessons of my life. That visit to Bali was a trip that changed my course.
It shined a magnified mirror on all my imperfections allowing me to be aware of things in myself that needed adjustments. With that newfound awareness, I was able to move forward since then, take back control of my life, change my story, and change my outcome.

Bali will always hold a special place in my heart. Here are some things I have learned during my travels that are relevant to life:

1. Turbulence is not always a bad thing: Beauty is pure, perfect and imperfect all at once.
2. We choose our final destination: We are the pilot to our lives.
3. Pack Wisely & Travel Light: This goes for the company you keep around you. The people in your life are a mere reflection of your current self, choose wisely and ditch the excess luggage.
4. Take it all in: Embrace life. Every.Single.Moment. (Time leaves us in an instant.)
5. Do what makes you smile: Don't be afraid to Love with all your heart

Thank you for the beautiful reminder to reflect on how far we have come. Here’s to many more learning curves by diving head first into everything we do. Your growth inspires me daily.
